To respond to this critical gap in the management of disaster risk in Bangladesh, Bangladesh Urban Resilience Project (URP) represents the second phase of a multiphase national DRM program to build institutional capacity to mitigate the impact of earthquakes in the rapidly urbanizing cities of Bangladesh. The objective of the overall engagement is to develop a comprehensive approach to managing earthquake risk through a structured process of knowledge development, education, and planning that involves a wide range of stakeholders to increase engagement and ownership.

The construction of the RAJUK’s Urban Resilience Unit (URU) building is a bold and timely initiative for Dhaka and the rapidly expanding urban center of Dhaka. Seismic assessment and resilience must be incorporated into urban development, authority, and accountability, and leadership is needed to facilitate private investments and consider risk and resilience within development of the Dhaka City area.
